Linkan Bian was elected as a council member of DM-QSR (Data Mining – Quality, Statistics, Reliability) section within the INFORMS professional society. The DM-QSR Section is a newly combined group composed of the prior Data Mining section and the Quality, Statistics, and Reliability section. Their purpose is to encourage discussion and interaction among individuals having an interest in these areas.
An ISE student team composed of graduate students Shuchisnigdha Deb and Md Mahmudur Rahman, and undergraduate student Rachel Creely placed 3rd in the National Society of Health Systems/Flexsim Model Building Competition. As a finalist they traveled to Houston, TX to make their final presentation. This is the 2nd year in a row that MSU-ISE has placed 3rd in the competition.
A conference paper entitled “Identification of External Design Preferences in Autonomous Vehicles” by ISE graduate students Shuchisnigdha Deb, Sushil Poudel, and Suyogya Bhandari was selected to receive the IIE SEMS Best Student Paper Award at the 2016 IIE Annual Conference & Expo in Anaheim, California, May 21 – May 24.
Linkan Bian’s journal paper was selected as the Best Paper in the IIE Transactions Focus Issue on Quality and Reliability Engineering for 2016. The award is selected by an examining committee from all papers published from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. His accomplishments will be recognized at the Honors and Awards Dinner during the ISERC (Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference) to be held in Anaheim, CA on May 23. His winning paper is entitled: Degradation Modeling for Real-Time Estimation of Residual Lifetimes in Dynamic Environments.
ISE senior, Kennedy Brown, granted the President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) Student Leadership Award for 2016 to Kennedy. She is one of two students from MSU that will be attending the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders ( www.nccwsl.org ) this year.

The INFORMS National Chapter recognized the MSU-ISE INFORMS Student Chapter with the Student Chapter Annual Award at the Cum Laude level, for the second year in-a-row. The purpose of the award is to recognize the outstanding achievements of student chapters. The award was presented at the Student Awards Ceremony in November at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Eghbal Rashidi (PhD student) serves as the current President of the chapter with Dr. Linkan Bian serving as their Faculty Advisor.
