Visiting Assistant Professor, Dr. Glenda Young, was recognized by the NSBE student chapter for her outstanding teaching commitment to the NSBE national goal “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community”.
Jack Francis (ISE PhD student) has been selected to receive the Irving M. Footlik, P.E. Memorial Scholarship for the 2018/2019 academic year from the Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. The mission of the Material Handling Education Foundation, Inc. is to promote the study of material handling, logistics and the supply chain by exposing students and educators to the industry through financial support.
Dr. Linkan Bian was elected as a member of the Quality Control & Reliability Engineering (QCRE) board of directors. He will serve in this position for two years beginning at the IISE conference in May 2018. The QCRE division is primarily interested in the theory, methodology, and practice in all technical areas that develop or apply QCRE, and brings together members from academia and industry who share a common interest in topics related to research and practice of QCRE. The division is composed of 2550 student members and 1344 professional members from academia, and industry.
Of all the industrial and manufacturing engineering departments in the nation, NSF has ranked the MSU-ISE department 14th in terms of 2016 research expenditures. The $4.4M in research expenditures for 2016 is representative of the high-level of scholarly activity of the faculty in the department. They have consistently maintained annual research expenditures above $3.6M for the last 5 years.
Tyler Abshire tied for 2nd place in the MSU Writing Center’s “For Those Who Serve” writing contest. His submission was entitled “From Those Who Serve to Those Who Haven’t.” His essay will be displayed in the Veteran’s Center multipurpose room.
Abdul Quddus (ISE PhD student) was awarded the 2017 Student Best Paper Award of the Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment (ENRE) section of INFORMS. His paper is entitled “Optimizing Electric Vehicle Charging Station Expansion with an Integration of Renewable Energy and Vehicle-to-Grid Sources.” He will receive the award at the INFORMS conference to be held in Houston, TX this November.
Mojtaba Khanzadeh’s (PhD student) conference paper was selected as one of the four finalists for the Best Student Paper competition within the Quality Control and Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Division of IISE. As a finalist, Mojtaba made a presentation of his paper at the national conference in Pittsburgh, PA this past May. Based on his paper and presentation, Mojtaba received the 2017 QCRE Best Student Paper Award for his paper entitled: Using Melt Pool Thermal Profiles to Predict Porosity in Additive Manufacturing.
